GasLight ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the GasLight mobile application and related services (collectively, the "App"). Please read this policy carefully. By using GasLight, you agree to the practices described here.
GasLight is a personal reflection tool designed to help you identify potential communication patterns in conversations. It is not a substitute for professional psychological advice, legal counsel, or medical diagnosis.

1.1 Information you provide
When you use GasLight, you may provide us with the following types of information:
- Conversation text you paste or type into the app for analysis
- Audio recordings you create within the app for transcription
- Screenshots or images you upload for analysis
- Email thread content you paste into the app
- Contact names or labels you assign to conversations
- Your self-assessment scores and responses
Important: GasLight processes your conversation content solely to provide you with analysis results. We do not read, store, or share the content of your conversations on our servers beyond what is necessary to generate your analysis.
1.2 Information collected automatically
When you use the App, we may automatically collect:
- Device information (device type, operating system version)
- App usage data (features used, frequency of use)
- Crash reports and performance data
- Anonymous analytics to improve the App
1.3 Information from third-party services
GasLight integrates with the following third-party services which may collect information as described in their own privacy policies:
- Anthropic Claude API: Processes conversation text to generate analysis. See anthropic.com/privacy

2. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the GasLight App
- Process and display your conversation analysis results
- Generate gaslighting pattern scores and insights
- Transcribe audio recordings into text for analysis
- Process subscription payments and manage your account
- Send you important notices about the App
- Respond to your support requests
- Monitor and analyze usage patterns to improve user experience
- Comply with legal obligations
3. Data storage and security
3.1 Local storage
Your analysis history, scores, and contact rankings are stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. This data does not leave your device unless you explicitly choose to share it.
3.2 API processing
When you submit a conversation for analysis, the text is transmitted securely to our AI processing partners (Anthropic and OpenAI) via encrypted connections. This data is processed to generate your analysis and is not retained by us beyond the immediate processing request.
3.3 Security measures
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:
- Encrypted data transmission (TLS/SSL)
- Secure API key management
- Local-only storage of personal analysis history
- No storage of raw conversation content on our servers
4. Data sharing and disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:
- Service Providers: With third-party vendors who help us operate the App (AI processing, payment processing) under strict confidentiality agreements
- Legal Requirements: If required by law, court order, or governmental authority
- Safety: If we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of GasLight, our users, or the public
- Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with appropriate notice to you
We never share your conversation content or analysis results with advertisers or third-party marketers.
5. Your rights and choices
5.1 Access and deletion
You have the right to:
- Access the analysis history stored on your device at any time through the App
- Delete individual analyses from your history
- Clear all your data through the Profile tab in the App
- Request deletion of any account-associated data by contacting us
5.2 Opt-out
You may opt out of:
- Analytics collection by adjusting your device settings
- Push notifications through your device settings
- Subscription renewal by cancelling through your app store account
5.3 Data portability
Your analysis history is stored locally on your device. You may export or backup this data through your device's standard backup mechanisms.
6. Children's privacy
GasLight is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately and we will take steps to delete such information.
Users between the ages of 13 and 17 should use GasLight only with parental consent.
7. Sensitive content and mental health
GasLight processes sensitive conversation content. We take this responsibility seriously:
- We apply a "Do No Harm" framework to all AI analysis
- Our scoring system is calibrated to avoid over-attribution of harmful patterns
- Results are presented as information for personal reflection, not clinical diagnosis
- We provide mental health resources when content suggests the user may benefit from professional support
If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact emergency services or a crisis helpline immediately. GasLight is not a crisis service.
8. Third-party links
The App may contain links to third-party websites or services (such as BetterHelp). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.
9. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by:
- Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
- Providing notice within the App
- Sending an email notification if you have provided your email address
Your continued use of GasLight after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
